LOS ANGELES (AP) — Throngs of people have visited the space shuttle Endeavour since it went on display at a Southern California museum.

The CaliforniaScienceCenter estimates a record 2.7 million visitors will view the retired shuttle in its inaugural year as a museum piece.

Museum President Jeffrey Rudolph says interest levelshave exceeded expectations.

The baby of the shuttle fleet, Endeavour's final mission last year involved parading through the streets from Los Angeles International Airport to its museum home as scores climbed on rooftops and lined sidewalks for a glimpse.

Crews are working to build a permanent exhibit for the shuttle, which will be displayed upright as though ready for launch.
