In the past, getting a knockoff version of the item you really wanted for Christmas was a big letdown, but this year, knockoffs are all the rage. 

Marketing experts say faux is more popular partly because of advances in technology enabling designers & manufacturers to make better-looking and higher quality fakes.

Knockoffs are also seen as a good way to be trendy without going broke. And environmentally conscious shoppers say they're happier with fake fur than the real thing.

Retailers say they're happy with the trend too - as sales for knockoffs have been rising.
