MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Riverside County are searching for a gunman who investigators say shot and killed two people and may be connected to the wounding of a deputy during a shootout.

Deputy Armando Munoz says gunfire erupted Tuesday at a gas station in Moreno Valley, where a woman was killed while sitting in an SUV.

A short time later a man was found shot to death at a home several miles away.

Then a deputy responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call was shot during an exchange of gunfire. He was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities say the suspect was armed with semi-automatic rifles and may have been wearing body armor.

Capt. Joel Ontiveros, who serves as the city's police chief, said late Tuesday that investigators believe the incidents are connected, but gave no other details.
