An explosion has damaged several apartment units in East Hollywood.

It was reported just after 11:00 a.m. in the 700 block of North Heliotrope Dr., and L.A. City Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Klein said it destroyed part of the 3-story building’s façade.

“We got on scene, we saw a unit on the second floor with the front wall that had actually come out of the building and down to the first floor,” he said.

One person was treated for minor injuries.

Klein said natural gas is the most common cause of this sort of explosion, arson investigators will examine the scene to figure out if it was caused by something else.

At least 3 units were expected to be red-tagged. Building inspectors were checking the rest of the building to make sure it’s still safe for other residents.
