LA County Union Strike Vote

LA County Union Strike Vote

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A union claiming Los Angeles County hasn't bargained in good faith has called for a strike-authorization vote by thousands of public employees.

The Los Angeles Times reports that a weeklong vote by Service Employees International Union Local 721 begins Wednesday.

The union represents 55,000 workers whose contract expired Sept. 30.

Fliers posted around the county Hall of Administration claim the union has made many serious proposals in four months of bargaining but the county hasn't taken them seriously.

County spokesman David Sommers says the county has been negotiating in good faith and calls the strike-authorization vote premature.

If approved, the authorization would not automatically lead to a strike.
