Huntington Beach has told a bar it’s breaking a rule by displaying a sign honoring veterans.

Johnny’s Saloon has a sign on top of its building that reads, "Thank a veteran for your freedom."

A city rule bans signs above buildings. One veteran who was hanging around outside the bar on Beach Boulevard says the rule is ridiculous.

He says the sign is a tribute to veterans so it should stick around.

The bar was threatened with hundreds of dollars in fines if it didn’t remove the sign by Wednesday. But the city says it's meeting with the owner next week, so the sign is still up.
