LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — It's five decades old and inedible, but a doughnut in Long Beach isn't getting tossed yet.
The monumental pink pastry towers over the Daily Grind Espresso Bar, whose property was recently sold.
Though new owners Frontier Restaurant Group planned a Dunkin' Donuts franchise, they also intended to demolish the building and throw out the doughnut. Until locals started a campaign to save it including a Facebook page called "Save the Giant Donut."
The Long Beach Press-Telegram reports that at a Planning Commission meeting Thursday the new owners said they'll now include the doughnut in their design.
Frontier Managing Partner Dan Almquist says "we don't want to be known as the guy who killed the doughnut."
The commission voted to delay any decision while new building plans are drawn up.
