A new study says biofuels are no better for the environment than gasoline.

Fuels made from the leftovers of harvested corn plants are actually worse than gasoline for global climate change in the short term, according to a federal government study.

The conclusion of the report challenges the Obama administration's conclusions that biofuels are a cleaner oil alternative that would help fight global warming.

While biofuels are better in the long run, the study says they won't meet a standard set in a 2007 energy law to qualify as renewable fuel.

The biofuel industry and administration officials are criticizing the research as flawed.
