You smell more than you thought.

Scientists say the human nose can detect one trillion different odors - a lot more than previously thought.

Up until now it was believed the nose was only capable of discerning between about ten thousand smells.

Scientists at the Rockefeller University New York tested the idea, which dates back to 1927 and was never scientifically investigated.

Their findings indicate that the nose knows one trillion different smells, and the researchers say that's probably an underestimate. And that means the human nose is more discerning than the eyes and ears.
