Flu Widespread in California

Flu activity is widespread across California.  According to the state's Department of Public Health, 27 flu related deaths have been reported through December 30th.  The CDPH says they only receive reports of flu related deaths for people under the age of 65.  Doctors encourage residents who haven't gotten their flu shot yet to go and get one, as it takes about two weeks after receiving the vaccination for the body to fully respond.

They recommend anyone over the age of six months to get the vaccine.  To stop the spread of the flu, the CDPH says those who are sick should stay at home, limit contact with others, cover your cough and sneeze, and wash your hands frequently.  Pregnant women, children under the age of five, people over 65 and residents with certain medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease, are most at risk for getting the flu.
