New England Patriots Loan Plane to Parkland Students To Fly To Rally

New England Patriots Plane Take Parkland Students To Rally

The New England Patriots helped students and families from Parkland, Florida get to Washington D.C. for the "March for Our Lives" rally against violence, the Boston Globe reported

The team's owner, Robert Kraft, offered the plane to families of the 17 victims and some students who were injured in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly reached out to him for the favor.

"Giffords," a gun violence prevention group was founded after the congresswoman was shot in the head during a public event in 2011. Kelly told the Washington Post this week he wanted to help the students get to Washington for the march.

“Not only did their friends and teachers get shot and killed, other friends shot and injured - most of them, they had bullets flying over their heads,” Kelly said. “This is not fair that they have to deal with something like this at their age.”

The plane left Fort Lauderdale on Thursday and will bring the families and students back to Florida after the march is completed.

The Patriots debuted their "AirKraft" in 2017 that featured the team's logo and five Superbowl trophies on its tail. The team owns two of the Boeing wide-body 767s.

Thousands of people across the country are participating in the march in Washington to pressure lawmakers to pass stricter gun control measures including closing loopholes in background checks and raising the age for when someone can buy a firearm.
