TUSTIN (CNS) - A 44-year-old Tustin man was arrested today for allegedly spray-painting cars after officers noticed red paint on his hands, a police lieutenant said.

David Loren Knowles was initially contacted by Tustin officers about 8 a.m. in the area of Pacific and 3rd streets, said Tustin police Lt. Robert Wright.

As the officer was talking to him he noticed the red paint on Knowles' hands, Wright continued. Police had been investigating vandalism reports in which a number of cars had been spray-painted red in that neighborhood.

Knowles allegedly admitted to the officer that he had spray-painted cars in the area, Wright said. However, he would not explain a motive for the action.

Officers eventually totaled 14 vehicles in the area that had been spray-painted red. The attacks seem to be completely random, Wright added.

Knowles was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, Wright said.
