Multiple Children Among Injured in South L.A. Crash

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A dozen people, six of them children, were injured in a three-vehicle collision this afternoon in South Los Angeles and one motorist was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and crashing into a van, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West 59th Place, near Figueroa Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD Media Relations Officer Tony Im said it was believed a DUI suspect crashed into a minivan with children inside, but he stressed that information from the scene was preliminary.

Two patients were sent to a hospital in critical condition and eight in serious condition, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Unconfirmed scanner transmissions indicated two girls, 13 and 15, were cut from the wreckage and in critical condition.
