Driver Shoots Himself After Being Pulled Over, Cops Find Body In His Trunk

Police in Maine said that a driver shot and killed himself after he was pulled over for a traffic violation on Thursday (August 9) afternoon. When police searched the car, they discovered a dead body in the trunk. Police have offered few details about the incident, and have yet to identify the driver or the victim in his trunk. 

Officers stopped the man for driving erratically, but as soon as he pulled over, he exited his vehicle and shot himself. According to the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel, the vehicle had Massachusetts plates. 

In a statement posted on Instagram, the Maine State Police said that "the bodies will be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for autopsies and examination." Authorities explained that the investigation is on-going and added that there is no threat to the public.
