Gangs are Using the Internet to Conduct illegal Criminal Enterprises

A couple hundred law enforcement agencies from around the world gathered in Orange County to share the latest in gang activity. LA County Sheriff McDonnell says that gangs are still making money off of drugs, robberies, and stolen property, but now also, "identity theft, credit card fraud, human trafficking, the coordinated knock-knock burglars are flocking, serial robberies and the use of Lyft and Uber to transport narcotics."

Cops say gangs in Orange and LA Counties have evolved to use the internet to conduct illegal criminal enterprises.

McConnell added that gangs are utilizing social media to recruit new members and coordinate robberies and sell stolen goods on sites like Craigslist and Offer Up.

Although overall numbers show gang-related crime is down. McConnell says LA County still has about 1000 gangs being run by about 50-thousand gang members.
