CANOGA PARK -- It’s the end of an era for Jerry’s Soda Shoppe!
The beloved treats counter – inside DeSoto Pharmacy – in Canoga Park is closing its doors after 22 years in business.
“We expected a certain amount [of people], but we never expected this kind of a response. Social media has changed everything, so people who have never been here before have been flocking from crazy distances to have an ice cream treat,” said owner Cathy Meyers.
Meyers’ family has owned the neighborhood pharmacy for decades and opened the soda shop in 1996. She says rent prices have gotten higher and it’s tough to keep up. Ultimately, the DeSoto marquee will be replaced by CVS.
“It’s time to say goodbye!”
But not before a few more days of dishing out sweet treats. People have been lining up for days for one last taste.
And a bit of a scoop! Meyers hinted at the possibility of a stand-alone store opening sometime in the future.
“Where and when? Who knows!” she added. “But I would love to see it live on.”
The Canoga Park location closes Tuesday night.
