LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Heroin and marijuana found in a trash can at the Twin Towers Correction Facility in downtown Los Angeles led to two homes in East Los Angeles, where a rifle and more heroin were seized and two suspects were arrested, authorities said today.
The drugs were found at the jail on Sept. 10, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Detectives investigated and identified a suspect. Surveillance then led to the two locations in East Los Angeles, officials said.
Detectives served search warrants at the two homes on Sunday. A suspect was arrested and an unregistered, modified assault rifle was seized at one of the homes.
“The suspect in this case had been previously arrested on felony gun charges in a previous case,” according to the sheriff's department. “The search of location 2 resulted in the felony arrest of the identified suspect, as well as the recovery of approximately 52 grams of black tar heroin.
“The approximate jail value of the recovered narcotics was over $30,000. The heroin was packaged and ready for delivery into our custody facilities.”
The suspects' names were withheld due to the ongoing investigation, officials said.
