LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County spiked 1.6 cents today to $3.723, one day after rising 1.4 cents.
The average price is 5.3 cents more than one week ago, 9.6 cents higher than one month ago and 58.1 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen 57.2 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price also jumped 1.6 cents, to $3.674, one day after rising 1.5 cents. It is 5.9 cents more than one week ago, 10.7 cents higher than one month ago and 56.7 cents higher than one year ago. It has risen 55.5 cents since the start of the year.
“Local gasoline demand continues to be strong while refineries are making less fuel as they convert to production of winter-blend gasoline that can be sold in pumps starting Nov. 1,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager. “Those factors have prevented prices from dropping.”
