SANTA ANA (CNS) - Democratic congressional candidate Gil Cisneros overcame Republican Young Kim's lead for the first time today in the 39th Congressional District.
Cisneros, who trailed Kim by 122 votes on Wednesday, took a 941-vote lead Thursday. Cisneros is ahead 50.23 percent to 49.77 percent.
If the trend continues, every congressional seat in Orange County will be occupied by a Democrat.
The two are attempting to replace Kim's longtime boss, retiring Rep. Ed Royce, R-Brea.
Democrat Katie Porter, who jumped ahead in the 45th District race on Tuesday, expanded her lead over Rep. Mimi Walters, R-Irvine, and thanked her supporters on Twitter, saying, “Thank you. I can't wait to get to work for Orange County and to stand with you 100 percent of the time.”
Porter led Walters 51.2 percent to 48.8 percent, a 6,203-vote margin.
Democrat Harley Rouda expanded his lead over Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R- Huntington Beach, by 14,313 votes or a 52.9 percent to 47.1 percent margin. Rouda declared victory on Saturday.
In other close races, state Sen. Janet Nguyen, R-Garden Grove, has seen her lead over Democrat Tom Umberg steadily erode since election night.
Umberg picked up 1,462 votes in Thursday's counting, narrowing Nguyen's lead to 2,964 votes. Nguyen, who is vying for a second term, leads 50.66 percent to 49.34 percent over Umberg.
Democrat Cottie Petrie-Norris lengthened her lead over Assemblyman Matthew Harper 52 percent to 48 percent.
Republican La Habra Mayor Tim Shaw continued to cling to a slim lead over Democratic Fullerton Mayor Doug Chaffee in the nonpartisan race for the Fourth District seat on the Board of Supervisors with Shaw ahead 50.1 percent to 49.9 percent. Shaw leads by 132 votes.
