Patient Steals Ambulance and Leads Police on Pursuit

LAKE ELSINORE (CNS) - A patient allegedly broke free from his restraint, commandeered an ambulance and led police on a pursuit from Lake Elsinore into San Bernardino County before being arrested in Hesperia, according to a news report.

The pursuit was first reported at about 4 p.m. as the ambulance headed north on Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore, NBC4 reported.

The suspect continued through Jurupa Valley and Corona with a police helicopter and patrol cars following, crossing the county line and stopping on the freeway in Hesperia near the intersection of Mesa Street and Mariposa Road, according to the station.

There, the shirtless suspect fled from the ambulance and ran into the brush besides the roadway, but California Highway Patrol officers eventually arrested the man, NBC4 said.
