Authorities Investigating Discovery Of Human Remains In Malibu

MALIBU (CNS) - Authorities today were investigating the discovery of human remains in an area of Malibu that burned during the Woolsey Fire.

The ``remains of an unknown individual'' were discovered late Monday afternoon near Latigo Canyon and Calicut roads, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Information was not immediately available on the gender or identity of the person whose remains were found.

``Sheriff's homicide investigators (and) Los Angeles County coroner investigators waited to respond until sufficient daylight was available (Tuesday morning) for the investigation,'' a sheriff's statement said.

It's unclear if the remains, which according to news reports included charred bones, were at the location prior to the fire.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
