SANTA MONICA (CNS) - A vehicle rolled over and sheared off two fire hydrants on Pacific Coast Highway this morning, prompting the closure of the roadway in both directions at the California Incline.
The accident occurred about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Water was still shooting high into the air from the sheared hydrants and into the Santa Monica Bluffs several hours afterward, but by about 7 a.m., the water had been shut off.
About an hour afterward, the eastbound lanes of PCH were reopened, but the westbound lanes remained blocked while crews worked to clear the mud from the roadway.
Also, traffic was diverted off the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway on the Fourth Street offramp to limit vehicles from entering the area, according to Caltrans.
