LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County dipped to 4.4% in March from a revised 4.7% in February and below the 4.7% of March 2018, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
Civilian employment decreased by 8,000 to 4.91 million in March, while unemployment declined by about 2,000 to 238,000 over the month. The civilian labor force decreased by 11,000 over the month to almost 5.15 million in March.
In Orange County -- where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available -- the March jobless rate was 3.2% percent, up from 3% percent in February.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 4.3% in March, up slightly from 4.2% in February, but the same as 4.3% in March 2018.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by about 13,100 jobs between February and March to reach more than 4.53 million.
About 223,000 people were unemployed in March in Los Angeles County.
“California's employers added 24,500 nonfarm payroll jobs in March, signaling a continuation of the economic expansion that began in March 2010,” state business and economic development Director Lenny Mondonca said. “While California's unemployment increased to 4.3%, it did so from a near historic low of 4.3%.”
