A mother who was discovered unresponsive in an Ontario home on Tuesday left a suicide note in the house where her two daughters were found dead, police said Wednesday. According to Ontario Police Sgt. Bill Russel, investigators found strong evidence that was the case.
"Among that evidence is a suicide note that was left by the mother indicating that she intended to kill the children and then herself," Russell said.
Officials launched a homicide investigation yesterday after the bodies of a 14-year-old girl and her 4-month-old sister were found inside the home located in the 500 block of East Tam O'Shanter Street. Officers responded to a call from the victims' father, who had discovered their bodies in the garage.
"The investigation yesterday led us to believe that the mother of the children is the one who is solely responsible for their deaths," Russell said.
The responding officers immediately began CPR on the pair of siblings when they were found, but they were unable to be revived. The mother was found in the home and taken to a local hospital where she is currently in stable condition. Neither victim, nor the mother were identified by officials.
Russell said the note indicated the mother intended to kill her children before taking her own life. It's unclear how the children were killed, but investigators did find evidence of a struggle in the home, he added.
“There’s strong evidence leading us to believe she’s the only person who acted in this case,” Russell said. “It’s a horrible tragedy.”
