Report: Man Sought in Glendale Hammer Attack Died in Forest Crash

GLENDALE (CNS) - A man accused of attacking his fiancee and her mother with a hammer at her Glendale home was killed in a crash last month in Angeles National Forest, it was reported .

The body of Brian Cruz, 29, was found on Sept. 27 off Angeles Forest Highway near Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Glendale police told ABC7.

The attack occurred about 4:15 a.m. on July 29 in the 600 block of West Wilson Avenue, Glendale Police Department Sgt. Dan Suttles said.

Cruz had been accused of striking his fiancee in the face and head several times with a hammer, inflicting several bone fractures to her face and skull, as well as multiple broken bones to her hands and causing her to lose a finger, Suttles said.

The victim “has since had multiple reconstructive surgeries and is currently undergoing physical therapy to regain the use of her hands,” he said, adding that the woman's mother was also struck with a hammer in the head when she tried to intervene.

She was treated at a local hospital and released the same day, Suttles said.

Cruz had been on the run before he died.
