Schools Closed After Gas Leak Discovered Near Front of Campus

SHERMAN OAKS (CNS) - A gas leak prompted the Los Angeles Unified School District's closure today of Robert A. Millikan Middle School and its magnets, officials said.

SoCalGas and LAUSD crews detected a gas leak last night near the front of the Sherman Oaks-based school and gas service was shut off while repairs are made, according to the district.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the school is closed today,” a district tweet said.

The campus is located in the 5000 block of Sunnyslope Avenue.

An LAUSD spokeswoman told City News Service the district's goal is to reopen the schools on Friday, but she cautioned it can't be guaranteed until the severity of the leak is determined.
