Suspected Vehicle Thief Arrested After Crashing Into Montebello Bus

Taking city bus on a rainy evening

A man wanted for vehicle theft was arrested today after allegedly crashing another stolen vehicle into the back of a Montebello bus, injuring three passengers.

The crash was reported at about 8 a.m. at Whittier Boulevard and Vail Avenue, according to Montebello city spokesman Michael Chee. The stolen vehicle rear-ended the Montebello Bus Lines bus and the vehicle's driver attempted to flee on foot, Chee said. He was quickly spotted by a Montebello police officer and taken into custody.

Three bus passengers were taken to Beverly Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, he said.

The alleged vehicle thief was also treated for injuries at a hospital before he could be booked. The suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant for grand theft auto and would likely be booked for suspicion of the latest vehicle theft and fleeing the scene of a crash, Chee said.
