LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped nine-tenths of a cent today to $4.238, the fourth consecutive decrease following a 21-day streak of increases that pushed it to its highest amount since July 21, 2015.
The average price is eight-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 56.3 cents more than one month ago and 35.6 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen 84.7 cents since the start of the year.
The average price rose 58.6 cents during the streak. It dropped one- tenth of a cent on Tuesday, two-tenths of a cent on Wednesday and eight-tenths of a cent on Thursday.
The Orange County average price dropped nine-tenths of a cent to $4.205, the fifth decrease in six days following a 12-day streak of increases totaling 46.9 cents that pushed it to its highest amount since July 21, 2015.
The Orange County average price is nine-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 56.5 cents more than one month ago and 37.2 cents higher than one year ago. It has risen 85.6 cents since the start of the year. It has dropped 1.8 cents over the past six days, including one-tenth of a cent on Thursday.
“Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices shot up by more than $1 a gallon between Aug. 19 and Sept. 30, and have now dropped by about 40 cents,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager. “We have already seen some of the lowest priced stations reducing their prices by five cents a gallon or more.”
