Kaepernick’s Self-Branding is Almost Praiseworthy

In what other country can a mid-tier professional athlete take a knee during his country’s national anthem and then get corporations falling over themselves to prove their wokeness by hiring him

Colin Kaepernick’s most recent score was a “partnership deal” with Disney that, according to ESPN, will “focus on telling scripted and unscripted stories that explore race, social injustice and the quest for equality. It also will provide a platform to showcase the work of minority directors and producers.”

One of Kaepernick’s most recent tweets before announcing the Mickey Mouse deal was on July 4, “Black ppl have been dehumanized, brutalized, criminalized + terrorized by America for centuries, & are expected to join your commemoration of “independence,” while you enslaved our ancestors. We reject your celebration of white supremacy & look forward to liberation for all.”

Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” said Monday that Kaepernick seemed to pave the way for a mediocre quarterback to make tens of millions by becoming a civil rights icon who says horrible things about police officers and about the country.

“But you almost have to give him credit,” Sexton said. “He has pulled off a transformation of his brand that corporate consultants would have to think long and hard to figure out how to do something like this. Remarkable. He’s a hero for taking no risk, for elevating himself and for saying things that tear down the rest of the country. Now, we’re at a point where if you take a knee, you’re a good person.”

Sexton pointed to the recent U.S. women’s soccer match where the women who stood for the national anthem were forced to explain their move.

Sexton said that the woke culture is beginning to even eat its own. The Broadway play “Hamilton,” which has been celebrated by liberals across the country for its three-hour-long rap about Alexander Hamilton and the country’s founding, has also been the focus of cancel culture. Despite the cast of minority actors, social media asked Disney to cancel the play from its streaming service.

The #cancelhamilton hashtag has emerged amid a trend by the left to topple the country’s history.

“They’re saying that his [Lin Manuel Miranda] celebration of the founders, now the founders portrayed by minority actors, is not woke enough because that’s an elevation of the American founding. Where do you even start with this? But this is what happens. They’ve controlled the culture for decades,” Sexton said.
