Woman Shot To Death In East L.A. Identified

EAST LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 33-year-old woman fatally shot by a stray bullet while sitting in an Uber in East Los Angeles was identified today by the coroner's office.

Deputies sent to Union Pacific Avenue near Bonnie Beach Place at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday found Yuri Chavez Arellano suffering from a head wound, according to the sheriff's department and the coroner's office.

Arellano died at a hospital.``Homicide detectives have learned the victim was an unintended target and was struck by a stray bullet,'' Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said. ``The male adult driver and female juvenile passenger were not injured.''No weapon was recovered, and no suspect information was released.

Arellano was riding in a vehicle with an Uber decal on the window, but it was unclear if the vehicle was in service at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

``Investigators at the scene identified a home of interest near the intersection where the shooting occurred,'' Viera said.

``They contained the scene, obtained a search warrant and notified Special Enforcement Bureau to assist.''The house was cleared and no suspect was found, Viera said. Some people were taken into custody for questioning.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
