3-Year-Old Bitten by Coyote in Placentia

PLACENTIA (CNS) - A 3-year-old girl was bitten by a coyote this afternoon at a Placentia park, but she's expected to survive.

Police were called just before 1:30 p.m. to Parque del Arroyo Verde at 1001 E. Palm Drive after the coyote bit the toddler in the head, said Placentia police Sgt. Adam Gloe. The girl, who was at the park with her parents, was rushed to an area hospital, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening, Gloe said.

The coyote ran off, but attempted to later bite someone else, Gloe said. Police tracked the coyote to a residential neighborhood east of the park, where officers shot and killed the animal, Gloe said.

Orange County Animal Care personnel were called to take custody of the remains.
