Pomona Pursuit Ends in Crash, Woman Arrested, Weapon Found in Vehicle

POMONA (CNS) - A 35-year-old woman suspected of driving a stolen vehicle was in custody this morning after she led police on a pursuit through Pomona that ended in a crash.

Officers with the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force were in the area of Garey and Fernleaf avenues about 12:10 a.m. when they spotted and attempted to stop a stolen vehicle, but the driver sped away, according to Pomona police Sgt. Medellin.

The suspect, identified as Sonya Sifuentes of Pomona, led officers on a pursuit throughout the city until she crashed into a parked vehicle at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Gibbs Street. Sifuentes tried to run away after the crash, but she was quickly caught by police, Medellin said.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded handgun, he said.

Sifuentes, who was booked at the Pomona city jail, had been arrested recently for a gun possession charge and also had two outstanding no bail warrants.

A man in the stolen vehicle suffered head and leg pain and was treated at the scene by paramedics, Medellin said. The passenger's name was not disclosed and there was no report he was taken into custody.
