Rhode Island Sends Out Tax Refunds Signed by 'Mickey Mouse,' 'Walt Disney'

While it might seem like Disney owns everything you love these days, rest assured, they haven't purchased Rhode Island (yet).

According to WPRI-TV, the nation's smallest state accidentally sent out more than 175 tax refund checks endorsed by "Walt Disney" and "Mickey Mouse" instead of the usual signatures the state uses of the Rhode Island's treasurer and controller. The report says the signatures were part of a 'test file' that was mistakenly used on the real checks sent out on Monday.

“No other signature lines were printed besides the two,” said Jade Borgeson, chief of staff for the Rhode Island Department of Revenue.

The tax refunds were sent to mostly businesses across the state for corporate, sales and other tax credits.

Borgeson said the checks were voided so businesses won't be able to cash them. New checks with the correct signatures of General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and State Controller Peter Keenan will be sent out next week.
