Police Arrest Woman Accused Of Lighting Fire To Bed During Domestic Dispute

BURBANK (CNS) - A Burbank woman accused of lighting fire to her husband's bed following a dispute between them was arrested, police said today.

Maria Guadalupe Urena-Escamilla, 51, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the Burbank Police Department.

Officers were called about 9:15 p.m. Saturday to the 1900 block of West Victory Boulevard, where they arrived to find a man “frantic'' outside, the department stated in a news release.

Investigators learned the man and his wife had been in a dispute, during which the woman allegedly threatened to kill him, according to police.

“As the victim lay in bed, the suspect used a flammable device and lit the bed on fire,'' the department said. “The victim was able to escape unharmed and called 911. ''

The fire was extinguished before spreading outside the home. No one was injured, including a child who was in the residence at the time, police said.

An investigation was opened by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families, according to police.

Urena-Escamilla is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, jail records show.
