LA MIRADA (CNS) - The coroner's office today released the names of a man and a woman killed in a crash in La Mirada when their speeding car sheared a fire hydrant and toppled a pole.
Michael Oliveri, 46, was a Whittier resident and 21-year-old Karlie Daily was a La Habra resident. They both died from multiple blunt force injuries, the coroner's office said.
The crash was reported at 7:53 a.m. Saturday at Rosecrans Avenue and Beach Boulevard, according to Sgt. J. Marquez of the Norwalk Sheriff's Station.
Witnesses told deputies the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed when it crashed and ``almost disintegrated,'' Marquez said.
The vehicle was described as a Chrysler 300, according to Deputy Brenda Serna of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. It was eastbound on Rosecrans at the time of the crash.
The man at the wheel and the woman were ``ejected due to the force of the collision,'' Sema said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Broadcast reports from the scene indicate they may have been father and daughter, but the coroner's office was unable to confirm the relationship.
Southern California Edison workers spent the day at the scene restoring the utility pole to service, Sema said.
The coroner's release gave no indication whether driver Oliveri suffered a medical emergency before the crash.
Investigators asked anyone who witnessed crash to contact the Norwalk Sheriff's Station Traffic Detail at 562-863-8711 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222- TIPS (8477).
