Ford Motor Company has recalled 272,817 vehicles in the United States due to concerns over battery failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Thursday (January 23) via Reuters.

Certain Ford Bronco Sport models from 2021 to 2023 and Maverick models from 2022 to 2023 are reported to be prone to having their 12-volt battery experience degradation and suddenly fail, which can lead to a loss of electrical accessories such as hazard lights or drive power, and increase the odds of being involved in a crash, the U.S. auto safety regulator said. Owners can take their vehicle to a Ford dealership for an inspection and have the 12-volt battery replaced free of charge if necessary.

Ford said it received an informal investigation from the Office of Defects Investigation after 19 owners reported issues of power loss, according to GuruFocus.com. A total 238 power loss reports were made involving vehicles equipped with Camel EFB batteries as of October 29, 2024.

Ford claimed that it received zero reports of accidents, fires or injuries as of November 20, 2024. All vehicle owners can visit nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if their vehicle is affected by Thursday's recall and all consumers affected are expected to receive notification letters before February 3, 2025.
