The Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit organization, has launched a naming contest for two bald eagle chicks born to parents Jackie and Shadow. The contest, announced on Friday, invites the public to suggest names for the eaglets in exchange for small donations. For $5, participants can submit one name suggestion, $10 allows for three suggestions, and $25 permits ten suggestions. CLICK HERE to participate.
The eaglets, who are part of a bald eagle family that is livestreamed 24/7, remain nameless as their parents navigate the challenges of raising them. The naming contest is open until midnight on March 28, and the winning names will be revealed in early April. According to the Friends of Big Bear Valley, the final decision will involve local students from third, fourth, and fifth grades, continuing a tradition that engages the community.
This year marks the first time in three years that Jackie and Shadow have had eaglets, capturing the interest of thousands of viewers who follow the livestream of their nest. Although three eggs were initially hatched, only two eaglets survived, as confirmed by the organization. The contest aims to celebrate the new additions and support the ongoing efforts of the Friends of Big Bear Valley to provide free, advertisement-free livestreams of the eagles' nest.
