Mission Viejo Animal Services Center in Orange County is launching a new initiative to help shelter animals find permanent homes. Starting August 5, the center will incorporate live music, partnering with Wild Tunes, a nonprofit from Texas. Wild Tunes, founded in 2023 by 12-year-old Yuzi Agarwal, aims to comfort shelter animals through music, helping them relax and become more comfortable around humans.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the program will be part of the animal center's enrichment efforts, enhancing the well-being of both animals and staff. Brynn Lavison, the center's director, expressed excitement about the initiative, stating, "It's very soothing for the animals to listen to music, listen to songs, and so we're very excited about it."

Volunteer musician Kayden Tokarski noted that many shelter animals have experienced trauma, and music provides them comfort and peace. While some studies suggest music, especially classical, can calm dogs in stressful environments, more research is needed to fully understand its effects.

The live music program will not only benefit the animals but also engage volunteers and support staff, adding a new dimension to the center's offerings. More information on volunteering for Wild Tunes is available online or by calling 949-470-3045.
