More than 9,200 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch remain without water service, with repairs expected to continue through the weekend.
The outage began Tuesday after a broken valve on a major 54-inch water pipeline — buried 24 feet underground — disrupted service to the Susana Tank, which supplies the area. Crews are working near critical infrastructure, including oil pipelines, a fiber optic line, and a gas line, making the excavation and repair process more complex.
The affected area is roughly bounded by Rinaldi Avenue to the south, Balboa Boulevard to the east, De Soto Avenue to the west, and the foothills to the north.
As of Saturday morning, the 10-million-gallon tank serving the community had reached 27% capacity. DWP crews installed an additional pump overnight and expect two more to arrive Saturday, which could allow water quality testing to begin sooner than planned.
Residents are under a boil water alert and are urged not to use tap water if it’s running, to help maintain pressure in the system. The utility advises using bottled water for drinking and cooking, keeping all taps closed, refraining from laundry and dishwashing, and turning off sprinklers, smart irrigation, and pool fill systems.
Five resource centers are open daily, offering bottled and recycled water, showers, restrooms, and mobile laundry units:
- Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park, 20500 Sesnon Blvd., Porter Ranch (7 a.m.–9 p.m.)
- O'Melveny Park, 17300 Sesnon Blvd., Granada Hills (7 a.m.–9 p.m.)
- Tampa Ave. & Sesnon Blvd., Northridge/Porter Ranch border (7 a.m.–9 p.m.)
