TUSTIN, Calif. — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman early Friday morning in Tustin that involved an off-duty Orange County sheriff’s deputy.
Tustin police say officers responded to a home in the 13000 block of Tustin East Drive at 5:22 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a shooting. They found 35-year-old Brittany Shaw suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to Orange County Global Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the incident involved one of its off-duty deputies, who has been placed on paid administrative leave. Officials have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Shaw served as the correctional health services chief for the county’s Health Care Agency, where she worked for six years, primarily at the Intake Release Center for newly booked inmates. In a memo to staff, Health Care Agency Director Veronica Kelley said Shaw’s “loss will be felt deeply” across the agency and county.
Mental health support is being offered to county employees. The investigation remains ongoing
