We are in the digital age and it is hard to know what is legitimate and what is a scam. These thieves are getting very creative and we want to protect you. Don't get fooled. Keep an eye out for these scams.
Voice Scams!
Scammers contact you and say they want to buy the item you're selling or that they've found your pet. They then say they heard of fake scams and want to verify you're a real person. The scammers then send a text message with Google Voice verification code and ask you for the code. Once they get your voice saying the code they will try to use it to create a Google Voice number linked to your phone number. They may also use that number to rip off other people and conceal their identity.
Card Services Scam
You may receive several calls each month that say it's your last chance to reduce the interest rate on your credit card The card may prompt you to press "1" to speak to a representative. If you receive a call like that, hang up and call your credit card company to verify this information.
Debt Collector Scam
You and your family may get calls saying you owe a debt. The call will demand payment within 24 hours, but they will give no information about the debt. In this case, check your credit report to verify if you have any debts.
Medical Alert Device Scam
You may receive a call that asks you to schedule the delivery for a medical alert device ordered by a doctor. It will instruct you to press "5" then ask for some credit card information. Call your doctor's office to verify that information.
Gift Card Offer Scam
You may get a call saying your bank is offering $100 gift cards. Call your bank, before giving any information.
